A long day

12 May. A busy day. Workshop at the donk. The weather was typical Dutch in a typical Dutch area. Pastures, rivers and big clouds with some slight rain. In the evening we (Raoul Baart and I) driven to Scheveningen to take some harbour photos.

During the workshop we first walked on the Donk. Unfortunately it was not completely dry, despite all this we have watch beautiful Dutch countryside with typical Dutch skies. After the walk we needs some coffee. After the coffee it was time for some information about the area. Harm Blom, from Staatsbosbeheer, told all about the history from the Donk. And he have some practical tips on locations and seasons for the Donk to photograph.

In the evening we drove to Scheveningen. We (Raoul Baart and I) wanted some photos from de harbour of Scheveningen. The wind was strong, to our direction. This results that the clouds look like moved to our lenses. It was a great sunset and I must say thanks to Raoul Baart, to take me with him. The next day I was very tired, but very satisfied…

Landscape photography; Being there!

Anyone can photograph. Anyone can learn to deal with a camera. Anyone can learn the theory about landscape photography. But there’s more! Being there!

So last Thursday I drive to Tienhoven. The weather was heavy overcast what they gave. For what it was worth. What my feeling said that something go to happen. As I looked at the sky, it began to itch. I had to go! Tienhoven here we come!

That’s a very important point with landscape photography. Being there! And I’m there at the floodplain nearby Tienhoven. The big clouds flow over me when the sun goes down. And the sky colored the sunset colors.

And I feel myself free and privileged. And a warm feeling took me and I’m wondering what grace we’ve got. God’s mercy and glory! Praise Him!

It’s going very well since I started as a professional landscape photographer this year. This is exactly what I hoped. And that feels good

After a new workshops on the Donk, Typical NL, in cooperation with Staatsbosbeheer, there is now an another new one! On June 16 I give a workshop landscape photography at CameraNu on Urk.

We begin this day at 10:00 am with theory about landscape photography. This will last until approximately 14:00 pm. In between there is a lunch provided by CameraNu. Of course, it is possible to buy some equipment in the shop at the lunch break. From 14:00 pm we go to the IJsselmeer, to be precise at the lighthouse on Urk

Wintertime at Marken

It was cold. Too cold! But this was the ideal opportunity for me, as a landscape photographer, to take landscape shots of a frozen Markenmeer. So on to Horse of Marken!

With two socks, two sweaters and two trousers, a hat, mittens and a scarf I was armed against the cold. And still I thought to feel the cold. These northeast winds… It feels like -20 degrees… But it was worth it!!!

The Markenmeer seems like a little bit on small Antarctica. Everywhere you looked ice, ice and more ice. With the lighthouse at the head of the peninsula of Marken, the Horse of Marken. A beautiful sight! A sight never to be forgotten…

Walking on the ice, enjoying the sunset. What needs a landscape photographer more?

One thing is certain. God’s creation is wonderful to see!

The horse of Marken

Last Saturday I was to Marken. To be precise, to the Horse of Marken. This little village, in North-Holland, is located at the IJsselmeer. On the head of the peninsula with the famous lighthouse. This lighthouse at every landscape photographer on the shortlist. So also on my list…

It was a gamble. Would we have a beautiful sunrise? The answer soon became clear on location: no. It was gray, windless. But the location is so beautiful that it really did not matter. The rocks, beaches, the view on the head of the peninsula are magnificent. You can feel yourself free there, free from the everyday busy life…

After a while the sky broke open a little bit. This created a small yet beautiful colors in the sky. We have luck…

This location is off off my shortlist. Till the drifting ice appears. Then he stands at the top! Lonely…

Coast at Westkapelle

The coast at Westkapelle is one of my favorites! How could it be otherwise as Zeeuw? Dikes, dunes, beaches, rows of poles, what more could you want?

Last Friday I traveled back to Westkapelle! The new photographic year starting on a nice spot. The storm had blown over. The calmness was again returned. As (almost) always have the most beautiful skies after a storm. So also today…

This time no poles rows. This time I was on the other side. Where the dunes begin to Vlissingen. Landscape Photography is always searching for new places. Even if you have been a hundred times to visit that place. Search this challenge!

Peaceful

I drove to the Ammerskade, near Groot-Ammers. The mills on the river Ammersche Boezem I frequently photographed. That’s why I drove past it this time. No, I was looking for a peaceful image. Exactly what I self needed. And,I found it! It was wonderful!

Last period was very busy. Too busy! Unfortunately I didn’t had the time to go photography. Fortunately, there comes now a calmer period. And the weather was good this morning! This was my chance to pick up the thread…

A little mist over the land and water. A little bit of clouds and a beautiful sunrise! What else is needed more for a good capture?

After it all, I drive with a very satisfied feeling back to my home. And when I was driving, there was a song in my mind: Lord, have mercy. Always!

At the dutch coastline in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen

Just a wonderful week in between from everyday life… Our journey leads us to Breskens. Just take a fresh air at the Zeeuwse coastline. I love it!

It was a cloudy week with a good breeze at the coast. Breskens is a little town on the head of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in the Netherlands. The waves from the North sea are breaking on the stone dike with the wooden poles. Never the same view. This is also the reason I take some photos from the same place (Some photos will follow soon this week). Ebb, tide, weather and our current climate make sure you do not get enough. For a Zeeuw, like me, this is just really enjoy.

But now I’m back home. With beautiful memories about our walks in the sand at the beach, or just look to the sunrise and sunsets. Or eat some lovely fish or the typical Zeeuwse Bolus… One thing is sure. We come back Zeeland! Soon I hope….

An old pier with crane

Kinderdijk, but then something else than the windmills. Really something else. IHC, ships, harbours…

Shipping and Kinderdijk are in fact connected to each other for years. Why? Kinderdijk is near world’s largest harbour, Rotterdam. And between two rivers, the Lek and Merwede. The ideal place for repair of ships.

Next IHC is a little old pier with a crane. This place I had in mind for a while. I just waited for the right conditions. And it was so on this night. For me it was something different like the meadows and fences in the Alblasserwaard. Modern buildings is not given to me. But an old jetty at sunset, was very welcome …
