Vlissingen lies where city and sea meet, without a clear boundary between the two. From the start, ships pass close to the shore, while the boulevard opens gently toward the water. At the same time, the wind sets a steady, almost understated rhythm. The setting feels open and grounded, powerful without imposing itself.
Moving through the town happens at an unforced pace. Traces of old fortifications appear alongside contemporary streets, yet the contrast never becomes rigid. Because of this, the town feels coherent. Everything seems to follow the same quiet cadence, as if city and coastline continually adjust to one another.

Why Vlissingen
Vlissingen is not a place that demands attention. Instead, it reveals itself gradually, especially when you take the time to observe. Light shifts across façades and quays, changing with the hour and the sky. As a result, the atmosphere is never fixed, yet it remains recognisable.
The transition between land and sea is gentle and continuous. There is no clear division, only a constant exchange. While walking along the water, it becomes apparent how naturally the urban environment and the coastal landscape connect. Over time, they seem to have grown together, shaping a quiet sense of balance.
That underlying character is reflected in the images made here. Rather than focusing on spectacle, they capture the interplay of water, space and subtle urban detail. The emphasis is on stillness and composition, allowing the environment to speak on its own terms. In this way, the images invite attention without directing it.

In the images I create, I try to capture that peaceful interplay. The photos are available as photo prints or digital files for anyone who wants to bring a part of this landscape back into their home or another project.

“In the shadow of Michiel de Ruyter, Vlissingen still moves with the sea.”
“Between the Westerschelde and the North Sea, Vlissingen finds its balance: open, resilient, and calm.”
