On an early autumn morning, I decided to return to Lake Grevelingen near Den Osse. In contrast, my first visit had been grey, dull, and cold, whereas this morning unveiled a completely different scene. The sky gradually painted itself in soft, warm hues, making the view truly enchanting.
Standing beside an old mooring post – a popular spot among landscape photographers – I was surrounded by stillness. Only the chirping of early birds accompanied my first composition.

Stunning Compositions with Long Exposure
The first shot came almost naturally. Moreover, a leading line guided the viewer’s eye towards the mooring post, standing tall in the calm water. Just outside the frame, the sun began to break through; therefore, I chose a long exposure. This gave the water a smooth, mirror-like effect, while preserving the vivid colours of the sky. I deliberately kept the sun’s light out of the composition; otherwise, the image would have been overexposed using this technique.
Using Filters for the Perfect Shot
After a few captures, I moved to a different angle so that I could add variety to my shots. Quickly, I adjusted my LEE filters and enjoyed the spectacle once again. Additionally, the combination of sky, water, and colour created a mood that inspires any landscape photographer. Schouwen-Duiveland continues to surprise with its unique spots, especially when paired with a sunrise or sunset.

One with Zeeland’s Nature
At moments like these, I feel completely at one with nature in Zeeland. That is why I keep coming back; Lake Grevelingen offers peace, beauty, and inspiration. The silence, together with the stunning display of colour and light, means that each photo is a tangible reminder of that serene morning.
